Stella...the Lost Mare

Ahhh.....this little mare has quite the story and reputation. What is it? Well....look at who she becomes: [link]

That's right, this is Efialti.

Headcanon time:
I recently heard a headcanon from regarding Alicorns that I fully agree with. Please watch this video here [link] to get the full explanation.

Now, going from that video, and looking back on Efialti's story, I felt the need to change it. After some thinking, and with some help from a friend, I've figured it out:

Young little Stella here was a happy mare living in the Unicorn Kingdom, despite the time being during the reign of Discord. Her father Nox and her mother Solaria were the most powerful magic users of the tribe, and had the responsibility of teaching new tribe members, young and old, how to help with moving the Sun and Moon. Her twin was Celestia, and Stella knew that the both of them would take their parents' places.

They were taught, Celestia by her mother, Stella by Nox. Celestia managed to raise the sun on her first try, and she recieved her cutie mark, proving that she WILL take her parent's places....but when it came time for the moon to rise...Stella could only make stars. Looking at her own flank, she saw her own cutie mark, much to her and Nox's surprise. She was happy though....Nox, not so much. He was concerned, and a tad doubtful..

Days passed, Stella getting nowhere with raising the moon. Months passed, no luck still......however, that all changed with the birth of a certain blue filly.

Stella was as joyous as the rest of her family was with the birth of Luna. She helped raise her, played with her, and loved her. Things were going great, but she still couldn't get the moon to rise, even after having her cutie mark for months. As she went out to try once more, Nox and Luna came along. Stella tried as hard as she could, but could only make stars. Nox then urged Luna to try, Stella feeling a small pang of hurt, but brushed it off, believing that Luna wouldn't be able to, especially at her age.

However, after a couple of tries, the moon rose...Stella's heart dropped at the sight, and when she turned and saw the cutie mark on Luna, it sank further.

As everyone celebrated at home, Stella was on her own, unsure of her abilities and path. What she didn't know, was that a certain pair of disproportionate eyes were watching her...

A week or so later, she decided to confront her parents about this. She needed to know why she wasn't the one to take their place with Celestia. After watching them converse quietly for a few moments, Nox spoke. He let her know the truth....she wasn't of their blood. She was an abandoned foal that was left on their doorstep around the time Celestia was born. Nox thought that she could still take his place, but he realized that it was something primarily passed through blood.....and that due to this, Stella would be unable to take his place.

Shocked, hurt, confused, and angry, Stella stormed out and ran from the village, deep into the forest. Nox and Solaria tried to find her, but to no avail. She hid for months, deshevled and lost. Wandering aimlessly, she yearned for release, be it from these feelings, or from this Nightmare she was thrown in. When she was at her weakest, she came upon the current tyrant of Equestria: Discord.

He told her of how he knew her plight...how she felt...and he promised her a way to prove she was worth it, as long as she agreed to help him. Angry at her "family", she agreed. Over time, she proved herself useful to the Lord of Chaos, and when the time came, he kept his promise. Using his powers, he made a "forced ascension", promising her great power. She ascended to an Alicorn....but....due to the force...it was unnatural. Her new wings were shaped like bat's wings, and her horn became crooked. Her fur darkened to a blue, her eyes changed as her pupils became slits, she grew fangs, and her mane became a wavy, star filled mist.

Despite this, she was...happy. The power surging through her was all she wanted. Discord also gave her a new talent....control over Nightmares.

Weeks passed, Stella helping Discord further and further using her Nightmare control. Things felt right for her....and she planned to one day take over the Unicorn Kingdom...to prove to Nox that she could do anything she wanted.

But all of that stopped when Discord was defeated...Stella witnessed his final moments, and saw that it was Celestia and Luna, weilding the first forms of the Elements of Harmony. She watched as they ascended.....she saw them recieve beautiful bird wings....she saw Celestia's pink mane and tail become in constant motion, and saw a fiery tinge enhance it as Luna's mane and tail became similar to her own, albeit more like the night, causing Stella's envy to boil over as she fled.

She fled to the Everfree Forest, and created a hideout for herself....this will become the ruins we all know today. Feeling revenge eat away at her, she worked to raise an army....she kidnapped ponies of all kinds to the Forest and transformed them into a near mirror image...during this time, she renamed herself "Efialti", and took the title of Queen.

Sombra fell and the Crystal Kingdom vanished during this time. Soon after, the Queen was prepared to take the newly-made Canterlot. She battled with those she used to call kin, but due to their combined power, she was defeated. However, due to Discord's influence, and her own power, she managed to survive in an essence and escape.

Then, as you may remember from the old rendition of the story, she corrupts Luna, turns her into Nightmare Moon, is defeated, and soon possesses Nightsong's body to make her an heir.
